The Kano State Police Command has intensified its fight against drug trafficking by arresting several suspected dealers and seizing large quantities of Tramadol and Cannabis Sativa in a series of targeted operations across the state. The arrests, carried out on May 23, 2026, were based on credible intelligence provided by members of the public and executed by officers from the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) and the Gezawa Police Division. These operations reflect the command’s ongoing commitment to curbing drug-related crimes and ensuring public safety in Kano.
In one operation along Nassarawa GRA, two suspects—Abdulsalam Muhammad and Murtala Sani—were apprehended in possession of a Bagco sack believed to contain illegal substances. Upon interrogation, one suspect admitted that the sack held Tramadol supplied by two accomplices who remain at large. A thorough search of the sack revealed 23 rolls of Tramadol, with each roll containing 10 packs. The police confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and will be charged in court following full investigations.
In another incident, officers from the Gezawa Division arrested Sama’ila Ado at a known drug hotspot where he was allegedly selling Cannabis Sativa. Police recovered 130 wraps and half a block of the substance from him. Separately, Umar Salisu was apprehended in the Gezawa Mesanda area with 10 wraps of suspected cannabis and two bottles of rubber solution, commonly used in drug packaging. All suspects are being held for further questioning, and police are actively pursuing other members of the suspected drug network.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, released a statement confirming the details of the operations and highlighting the role of public intelligence in the successes. He emphasized that timely information from citizens has significantly enhanced the effectiveness of police interventions. Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori commended the officers for their professionalism and dedication, while also urging the public to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious activities.
The Kano State Police Command remains resolute in its mission to dismantle drug trafficking networks and protect communities from the dangers of substance abuse. With continued collaboration between law enforcement and the public, authorities are confident that such operations will lead to long-term improvements in public safety across the state.
