Peter Oboh Egbodo has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Oju/Obi Federal Constituency, defeating incumbent House of Representatives member David Ogewu Agada in a decisive victory. The official results announced on election day revealed that Egbodo secured 12,993 votes, while Agada received only 120 votes. This overwhelming margin marks a significant shift in political dynamics within the constituency and sets the stage for a new representative in the next general election.
The primary election, held under the supervision of the APC’s state and local party structures, was conducted across polling units in the Oju and Obi Local Government Areas of Benue State. Party officials confirmed that the process was peaceful and largely free of disruptions. Egbodo’s campaign focused on youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and improved access to basic services, themes that resonated strongly with voters in the constituency.
Egbodo, a seasoned political figure and community leader, has been active in local governance and civic engagement for several years. His victory is seen as a reflection of growing support for fresh leadership and change within the APC in Benue State. The party’s state chairman, who spoke at the result announcement, praised Egbodo’s performance and expressed confidence in his ability to deliver on campaign promises.
David Ogewu Agada, who has represented the Oju/Obi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives since 2019, had hoped to secure re-nomination. However, his low vote count indicates a loss of grassroots support, possibly due to dissatisfaction with legislative performance or perceived neglect of local needs. Despite the defeat, Agada has publicly congratulated Egbodo and pledged to support the party’s candidate in the general election.
The APC primary result now positions Egbodo as the party’s flagbearer for the Oju/Obi Federal Constituency in the upcoming 2027 general elections. With the party’s backing and a strong mandate from the primary, he is expected to launch a robust campaign to secure victory in the national polls. His campaign team has already begun mobilizing supporters and organizing rallies across the constituency.
This development adds momentum to the APC’s preparations for the next electoral cycle, as the party seeks to strengthen its presence in Benue State. The outcome also highlights the importance of internal party primaries in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape, where candidates must earn support not just from party leaders, but from grassroots members. As Egbodo prepares for the general election, his victory signals a new chapter for the Oju/Obi constituency and the APC’s electoral strategy in the region.
