The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has declared its 2027 primary election peaceful and hitch-free, despite protests in parts of the state over candidate endorsements. Party officials confirmed that the exercise was conducted without disruption across all local government areas, with reports from the field indicating a smooth and orderly process. The South-West Zonal Secretary of the APC and Chairman of the monitoring and supervising committee, Aluko Alfred, made the announcement during a press briefing in Osogbo. He emphasized that the party leadership and members demonstrated high levels of cooperation, which contributed to the success of the primary.
Alfred stated, “The primary election held across Osun State was hitch free. Reports from the field showed that the exercise was conducted peacefully.” He commended party leaders and members for their discipline and adherence to party protocols throughout the process. Similarly, Bayo Ayo, Chairman of the APC Primary Election Committee in Osun State, praised the conduct of party members, noting that the exercise proceeded largely without incident. Ayo confirmed that the collation of results was ongoing and assured the public that the final outcome would be announced in due course. “Results of the exercise are gradually coming in, and the final outcome will be made known to the public soon,” he said.
However, not all areas experienced calm. In Ijesa North Federal Constituency, a group of APC members staged a protest against the endorsement of Oluwole Oke, the current lawmaker representing the constituency, for the 2027 general election. Oke, who also serves as Director General of the Osun APC Campaign Council, was reportedly selected by party leadership, a decision that sparked discontent among some stakeholders. Protesters gathered in the constituency, carrying placards with messages opposing the endorsement. One protester, who chose to remain anonymous, argued that it was the turn of Oriade Local Government Area to produce the next federal lawmaker.
The demonstrators insisted that Oke, who hails from Esa-Oke in Obokun Local Government Area, should step aside to allow a candidate from Oriade to contest the seat. They expressed concern over perceived marginalization and called for equitable representation within the party. Despite the protest, party officials maintained that the primary process remained peaceful and that all procedures were followed as outlined by the party’s guidelines. The APC leadership in Osun has urged members to remain calm and await the official announcement of results. The outcome of the primary will play a crucial role in shaping the party’s strategy for the 2027 general elections, as candidates are now formally positioned for the next electoral cycle.
