Police in Anambra State have arrested a suspected notorious cultist, Favour Izunna, aka Njoku, who has confessed to being an executioner and participating in kidnap activities within the state. The arrest took place on 30th April 2026 in Obosi, following a coordinated operation by operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Unit, Enugwu Ukwu. The suspect, aged 22, is a member of the feared Vikings Confraternity, where he played a key role in terrorising Obosi and surrounding communities. His arrest marks a major breakthrough in the ongoing efforts to combat cultism and violent crime in the region.
According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the command’s spokesperson, the suspect confessed to the gruesome murder of at least five persons in Obosi. He specifically named three victims: Somtochukwu Alfred, Udechukwu Izuchukwu, and Izuchukwu Obi, all males. During interrogation, Izunna admitted that he was hired by certain sponsors to carry out these killings, revealing the presence of external financiers behind the violent acts. This information has prompted the Anambra State Police Command to intensify efforts to track down other members of the cult and their sponsors, who remain at large.
The arrest was supported by the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, from Awkuzu, which assisted in the recovery of weapons from the suspect’s possession. The recovered arms include one pump-action gun, five live cartridges, one locally made Beretta pistol, and seven rounds of 7.5mm live ammunition. These weapons are believed to have been used in previous attacks and kidnappings. The suspect also admitted to involvement in multiple kidnapping operations across Anambra State, including the abduction of Emeka Chukwuka and Chinelo Onyeka, among others.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed all units to redouble their efforts in dismantling the network of the Vikings Confraternity and its affiliates. The police are now focused on gathering intelligence to locate and apprehend other members and their sponsors. The statement released by SP Ikenga emphasized that the arrest of Favour Izunna is a significant step forward in the fight against cult-related violence and criminality in the state.
The community of Obosi and surrounding areas have welcomed the arrest, hoping it will bring relief and restore peace. Authorities are urging anyone with information about other cult members or sponsors to come forward. As investigations continue, the police remain committed to ensuring justice for victims and preventing further acts of violence. This development underscores the government’s resolve to tackle insecurity and protect citizens across Anambra State.
