The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ebonyi State has officially ratified the suspension of Barrister Silas Onu, a member from Obiozara Ward in Ohaozara Local Government Area, following allegations of anti-party activities, gross misconduct, and falsification of party structures. The decision was made during a State Executive Committee meeting held on April 25, 2026, at the party’s secretariat along the old Abakaliki-Enugu Road. Onu’s suspension, which lasts for three months, was based on his actions that were deemed to bring the party into disrepute and threaten its internal stability.
Comrade Chukwudi Mgboroko, Secretary of the Ebonyi State ADC, read the suspension letter during the meeting. He highlighted that Onu had publicly presented himself as the elected chairman of ADC Ebonyi State, despite never having been formally recognized by the party. According to Mgboroko, Onu lacked a physical party card signed by the ward chairman and secretary, and had exploited the online registration system to mislead the public. The letter stated that Onu’s actions caused significant commotion and damaged the party’s reputation at the national level.
The State Executive Committee deliberated on the matter and unanimously approved the suspension. The motion to ratify Onu’s suspension was moved by Bassey Imoke-Edogi, the Ebonyi State ADC Coordinator for Electoral Matters and INEC Liaison, and seconded by State Auditor Vincent Eze. The decision was made to uphold the initial suspension issued by the ward and local government structures, reinforcing the party’s commitment to discipline and constitutional adherence.
Dr. Mrs. Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, Chairman of the Ebonyi State ADC, emphasized that party members must uphold integrity and act in the collective interest of the organization. She stated that Onu’s conduct violated the ADC’s constitution and undermined party unity, discipline, and orderly administration. As part of the suspension, Onu is barred from participating in any party activities at the ward, local government, state, or national levels. He is also prohibited from attending meetings, congresses, or conventions and must cease presenting himself as a party official or representative.
The suspension will remain in effect for three months, pending further review and the outcome of ongoing disciplinary committee proceedings. During this period, Onu will lose all rights and privileges as a party member. The party has also announced that ahead of upcoming primaries, several members have declared interest in contesting key elective positions, including governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, and State Assembly seats. This disciplinary action underscores the ADC’s determination to maintain order and credibility as it prepares for critical political engagements.
