Three Soldiers Killed in Kwara Community as Troops Repel Attack

Nigerian Army troops have successfully repelled an early morning terrorist attack in Kemanji community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, preventing a potential kidnapping and neutralising several assailants. The incident occurred around 3:00 am, with soldiers responding swiftly to halt the attackers from infiltrating the community. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq confirmed the development in a post on his official X account, highlighting the bravery of the military personnel involved.

According to the governor, the operation resulted in the neutralisation of multiple terrorists, though the exact number was not disclosed. He also confirmed the tragic loss of three soldiers who died while carrying out their duties. “My sincere condolences are with the families and loved ones of these great men who have paid the supreme price,” Governor AbdulRazaq stated, expressing deep sorrow over the sacrifice made by the fallen troops.

The governor assured the public that the state government remains committed to enhancing security and providing support to the families of the deceased. He reiterated that efforts are ongoing to strengthen security measures across vulnerable areas, particularly in rural communities like Kaiama, which have increasingly become targets for criminal elements. Despite these assurances, the incident has sparked widespread public reaction, with residents questioning the effectiveness of current security strategies.

Many citizens took to social media to voice their frustrations, particularly regarding the perceived lack of proactive measures to prevent such attacks. One user, Nura, criticised the government’s reactive approach, arguing that responding after an attack indicates a failure in preventive security planning. Another commenter, Adeyemi Ishola, expressed anger over what he described as the governor’s absence from critical security issues, accusing him of being more focused on political roles in Abuja than on protecting his constituents. “While you are busy playing Abuja politician and chairman of everything in the FCT, our brothers in Kaiama are being used for target practice,” Ishola wrote, urging the governor to return to his state and address security challenges directly.

Tunde Adeniji echoed similar sentiments, calling on authorities to move beyond condolences and implement concrete, long-term security solutions. The growing public outcry reflects increasing anxiety among residents over the rising threat of insecurity in Kwara State, especially in remote and under-resourced areas. As the government continues to respond to the attack, the incident underscores the urgent need for enhanced surveillance, community engagement, and military presence in high-risk zones. The security situation remains a critical concern, and the coming days will test the state’s ability to prevent further incidents and restore public confidence.
