Jos Kllings: Diasporan Group Urges Immediate Action, Backs State Police Efforts

A diaspora group, the Plateau State Association USA, Inc. (PSA-USA), has issued a strong call for urgent action to address the escalating violence and killings in Plateau State, urging the federal government to strengthen security measures and establish a state police force. In a statement released by its national president, Barth Shepkong, on Friday, the group condemned the recent attacks as “unacceptable and a grave concern requiring immediate and coordinated action.” The association emphasized that the current security structure is no longer sufficient to handle localized and evolving threats, particularly in Plateau State where recurring violence has claimed innocent lives.

PSA-USA highlighted the serious gaps in prevention, response, and overall security coordination, stressing that the continued loss of lives under recurring circumstances demands more proactive and effective security measures. The group called on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to take decisive and immediate steps to address the deteriorating security situation, asserting that the protection of lives and property is the primary responsibility of government. It urged the federal leadership to act with urgency and resolve to safeguard citizens in Plateau State, especially in communities directly affected by the violence.

The association stressed that early warning signs of potential attacks must be met with swift and effective intervention. “Where early warning signs exist, they must be matched with early and effective action,” the statement read. PSA-USA also insisted that those responsible for the attacks must be identified, arrested, and prosecuted without delay, underscoring that accountability is essential to breaking the cycle of violence. The group further called on critical stakeholders—including religious leaders, traditional rulers, security agencies, state lawmakers, and members of the National Assembly—to act with urgency and take collective responsibility for protecting lives and property.

PSA-USA warned that sustained inaction or delayed responses risk undermining public trust and further endangering communities. It stressed that coordinated and sustained action is critical to restoring public confidence and ensuring lasting stability in the state. As a diaspora organization with deep roots in Plateau communities, PSA-USA reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for sustainable security solutions and accountable governance. The group stands in solidarity with Governor of Plateau State and the peace-loving people of the state, especially those directly impacted by the violence.

The association reiterated the urgent need for immediate and sustained efforts to prevent further loss of life, declaring that “the protection of human life is the first duty of government—and it must not fail.” PSA-USA is a non-profit, non-political, and non-religious organization that unites Plateau indigenes in the United States to support education, healthcare, and socio-economic development initiatives for underserved communities in the state. The group’s call comes amid growing concern over insecurity in Plateau State, and its message is expected to resonate with both local and federal authorities as they confront the challenge of restoring peace and stability.
