2027 Plateau PDP Screens 131 Assembly and 3 Senatorial Aspirants

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has completed the screening of three senatorial aspirants and 131 House of Assembly candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections, marking a significant step in the party’s preparations for the upcoming polls. The screening exercise, conducted by the party’s internal committee, was concluded in Jos, the state capital, with the Chairman of the screening committee, Tyem Gideon Nanden, confirming the outcomes during a press briefing.

Nanden stated that the screened candidates are now eligible to participate in the party’s primary elections, scheduled to hold next Wednesday. He emphasized that most of the aspirants emerged through consensus arrangements, reflecting a spirit of unity and cooperation within the party structure. This approach was applied to all senatorial districts and the majority of House of Assembly constituencies.

The senatorial aspirants identified by Nanden are Johnbuil Shekarau for Plateau South, Timothy Golu for Plateau Central, and Formson Godson Dalyop for Plateau North. All three were selected through consensus, underscoring the party’s effort to avoid internal conflicts at this stage. For the House of Representatives, all aspirants were also chosen through consensus, except for the Langtang North/Langtang South federal constituency, where competition remains active.

A total of 131 aspirants are vying for the 24 seats in the Plateau State House of Assembly, indicating strong interest within the party. Nanden noted that the screening process was thorough and transparent, ensuring that only qualified and committed individuals proceed to the next stage.

Meanwhile, five governorship aspirants from Plateau State are currently undergoing screening in Abuja. These include Chief Kefas Wungak Ropshik, Sarpya Danielo, Sunday Biggs, Alfred Dapal, and Alex Ladam. Their screening is part of the broader national process for governorship candidates, which will determine who will represent the PDP in the state’s gubernatorial race.

Addressing concerns about internal divisions, Nanden dismissed reports of factionalism within the PDP, affirming that the party remains united under the leadership of National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed and National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu. He stressed that the party is the legally recognized PDP by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and no rival faction will be fielding candidates.

The screening process reflects the PDP’s commitment to a structured and inclusive nomination process, setting the stage for a competitive yet peaceful primary. As the party moves closer to the 2027 elections, the focus will remain on consolidating support and building a strong electoral platform across all levels of government.
