2027: Gov Sani Slams Opposition as Unserious, Accuses Them of Fighting for Personal Interests

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has criticized the current opposition political parties in Nigeria, accusing them of lacking genuine political ideology and being driven solely by personal ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ program on Tuesday, Sani expressed deep concern over the disorganization and shifting allegiances within opposition groups. He emphasized that these parties are not built on core principles or a clear vision for the country, but rather on opportunistic moves to gain political advantage.

Sani pointed out that in the last three months alone, members of the opposition have been frequently switching from one party to another, seeking platforms that can elevate their individual status. He questioned whether these parties are truly committed to challenging the ruling party for the sake of national progress or if their actions are motivated by self-interest. “The current opposition in Nigeria, are they really fighting the ruling party because they believe in Nigeria?” he asked, highlighting the lack of ideological foundation among these groups.

According to the governor, opposition parties must demonstrate clear agendas, philosophies, and organizational structures to be taken seriously. He criticized their inability to present concrete evidence of systemic persecution by the ruling party, which they often claim as justification for their resistance. “You need to ask them to show you the evidence that the ruling party is fighting them because that’s what they keep saying,” Sani stated, underscoring the absence of substantive proof behind their claims.

He further stressed that political parties must be built through sustained effort, strategic planning, and unity, rather than constant realignment and defection. “If you are in a political party, you have to sit down, build, organize and do whatever is necessary to protect the party,” he said. Sani warned that jumping from one party to another undermines the credibility and effectiveness of any political movement.

His remarks come at a critical time as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 elections, a period when political parties are expected to present coherent platforms and leadership. The governor’s comments have sparked debate across political circles, with some viewing them as a call for greater discipline in opposition politics, while others see them as an attempt to marginalize dissenting voices. As the election cycle approaches, the need for structured, principled opposition remains a key factor in shaping Nigeria’s democratic future.
