2027: Gov Idris Stands Firm, No Apology for Backing Tinubus Re-Election Bid

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has firmly stated he has no regrets or apologies for his unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his campaign for a second term in office, reiterating his commitment during a public event in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday. The gathering, organized by the Tinubu Support Organisation (TSO), saw mass endorsements for both the president and the governor ahead of the 2027 general elections. Idris dismissed criticisms aimed at his public backing of Tinubu, asserting that those questioning his stance lack understanding of the realities and development progress in Kebbi State.

Speaking at the event, Governor Idris referenced a viral clip from the previous week that questioned his active role in promoting Tinubu’s re-election. He pointed out that the person behind the clip was not from Kebbi, implying a lack of firsthand knowledge about the state’s current situation. Idris emphasized that President Tinubu’s administration has shown consistent belief in Kebbi and its people, citing ongoing federal projects as tangible proof of this commitment. He argued that these projects are a direct result of the strong relationship between the federal government and the state.

The governor stressed that his support for Tinubu is rooted in visible development outcomes, including infrastructure and service delivery initiatives funded by the federal government. “That’s why we are enjoying federal projects today,” he said, adding that the essence of democracy is to deliver benefits directly to citizens. He described Tinubu as both a leader and mentor, reinforcing that Kebbi State remains fully behind his re-election bid. “Tinubu is my leader and mentor. We support him 100% in Kebbi State,” Idris declared with conviction.

He recalled that Kebbi residents had already shown their allegiance to Tinubu in a massive show of support last year. Thousands gathered at the Haliru Abdu Stadium in Birnin Kebbi to endorse the president for a second term, making Kebbi the first state in Nigeria to do so. This early endorsement, according to Idris, reflects the deep trust and confidence the people of Kebbi have in Tinubu’s leadership. He also affirmed that his administration will continue to champion initiatives that align with the development of Kebbi and the broader national agenda.

As the 2027 elections draw nearer, Governor Idris’s strong public stance underscores the political alignment between Kebbi State and the federal government, setting the tone for continued collaboration and development. His remarks signal a unified front in support of President Tinubu’s re-election, with Kebbi poised to remain a key stronghold in the ruling party’s campaign strategy.
