The Labour Party (LP) has recorded a significant increase in the number of aspirants purchasing nomination and expression of interest forms ahead of the 2027 general elections, signaling renewed interest in the party’s platform across Nigeria. The surge in applications was confirmed by LP spokesperson Ken Eluma Asogwa, who stated that candidates from various states have flocked to the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja to secure their forms. The party’s nomination process, which began recently, has drawn prominent figures and political hopefuls eager to contest for federal and state legislative positions.

Among the notable aspirants who purchased forms on Wednesday is Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, former First Lady of Ondo State, who is vying for the Senate seat in Imo East Senatorial District. Her entry into the political arena has generated considerable attention, especially given her background and public profile. Other aspirants include Hassan Mamman Barguwa, a former House of Representatives member for Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency in Adamawa State, who is seeking re-election. Dennis Chibuzor Oshai is contesting for the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency seat in Delta State, while Eric Edward is running for the State House of Assembly seat in Hong State Constituency, Adamawa State.

Also in the race is Mohammed Hayatu Atiku, who is aiming for the State House of Assembly seat in Uba/Gaya State Constituency, Adamawa State. These candidates represent a diverse cross-section of political experience and regional representation, highlighting the party’s efforts to broaden its appeal. Hassan Mamman Barguwa, speaking to journalists after collecting his forms, praised the LP for its transparent and efficient nomination process. He described the exercise as “seamless” and expressed confidence in the party’s growing influence, particularly in Adamawa State and the broader North East region.

Asogwa emphasized that the high turnout reflects the party’s increasing popularity and credibility among Nigerian voters. He noted that the nomination forms are available to all eligible candidates, and the party is committed to ensuring a fair and inclusive process. At the time of filing this report, the National Secretariat remained active, with several aspirants still in line to purchase their forms. The Labour Party’s 2027 campaign is shaping up to be one of the most competitive, with a strong field of candidates emerging from different parts of the country.

This wave of interest underscores the party’s strategic positioning ahead of the next general elections. As Nigeria prepares for a new political cycle, the Labour Party’s growing momentum suggests it may play a more significant role in shaping the nation’s political landscape in the coming years.
