2027 APC House of Reps Race: 74 Aspirants Vie for 14 Oyo State Tickets

Seventy-four aspirants are vying for House of Representatives tickets on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections. The announcement was made by Professor Mojeed Alabi, Chairman of the National Assembly Primary Election Committee in the state, during a press conference held at the APC secretariat in Ibadan on Saturday. Alabi, a former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, confirmed that the 74 candidates had been officially cleared by the APC National Secretariat to participate in the primaries. He emphasized that the state committee’s role is to supervise, monitor, and collate results from the 14 federal constituencies in Oyo State.

The primary elections will be conducted across all 14 federal constituencies in the state, with the National Secretariat responsible for announcing the final results. Alabi clarified that his committee is not an appeals body and will not resolve disputes arising from the primaries. Instead, any grievances will be handled by the designated appeals committee within the party structure. He stressed that the state committee’s mandate is strictly to oversee the electoral process and ensure transparency and fairness.

Alabi also noted that the committee will not remain stationed in any one location during the primaries. Instead, members will be deployed to monitor the elections across various polling units to maintain integrity. He added that while 74 aspirants have been cleared, the number of those who were not cleared remains undisclosed. This information, he said, is under the purview of the national party leadership.

The APC primaries in Oyo State are expected to be competitive, given the number of aspirants and the political significance of the state in national elections. The party has been working to ensure a smooth and credible process, with strict adherence to party guidelines and procedures. The 2027 general elections are seen as a critical moment for political realignment, and the outcome of these primaries will shape the APC’s candidate list for the upcoming national polls.

As the party prepares for the primaries, stakeholders are urging candidates and supporters to engage in peaceful and respectful campaigns. The APC leadership has also called on members to uphold party unity and avoid any actions that could undermine the electoral process. With the primaries set to determine who will represent the party in the House of Representatives, the stakes are high for all involved.

The APC’s primary process in Oyo State will serve as a key indicator of the party’s internal dynamics and readiness for the 2027 elections. The results are expected to influence the political landscape in the state and beyond, as candidates gear up for a fierce battle for public support.
