The All Progressives Congress (APC) state governors have reviewed the outcomes of the party’s recent primary elections and agreed to hold a strategic meeting with the party’s National Chairman, Netanwe Yilwatda, and other top leaders to strengthen party unity and prepare for upcoming elections. This decision was made during a closed-door meeting of the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) that concluded early Tuesday in Abuja. The forum, which comprises all current APC governors, discussed key political developments, including the results of the party’s primaries across Nigeria, the recent Ekiti governorship election, and several by-elections where the APC recorded strong performances.
Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, who serves as the Chairman of the PGF, addressed journalists after the meeting, emphasizing the governors’ commitment to improving the nation’s democratic processes. He stated that the forum is focused on addressing challenges within the electoral system and ensuring better outcomes for Nigerians. Uzodimma highlighted that the governors are determined to work closely with the APC leadership to build a stronger, more resilient party structure ahead of the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.
The meeting brought together governors from Ekiti, Zamfara, Taraba, Lagos, Sokoto, Kano, Kaduna, Gombe, Kebbi, Akwa Ibom, Borno, and other states. These leaders engaged in detailed discussions on party strategy, electoral performance, and the need for cohesive leadership at both national and state levels. The governors expressed confidence in the party’s ability to maintain its political dominance, especially given its recent electoral successes in key states.
Uzodimma also noted that the forum has decided to continue supporting the APC leadership, providing guidance and resources to ensure the party remains competitive and well-prepared for future elections. He stressed the importance of unity, discipline, and strategic planning within the party to counter opposition efforts and maintain public trust. The governors are particularly focused on improving voter turnout, enhancing party outreach, and addressing logistical challenges in electoral processes.
The PGF’s decision to meet with the national leadership reflects a proactive approach to party governance and electoral preparedness. By aligning state-level leadership with national party objectives, the APC aims to project a united front in the face of growing political competition. The upcoming 2027 elections are expected to be highly contested, and the governors’ involvement signals a strategic push to consolidate support and strengthen party infrastructure across the country.
As Nigeria continues to navigate political transitions and electoral reforms, the APC governors’ commitment to collaboration and improvement positions the party for a strong campaign ahead. Their actions underscore the importance of coordinated leadership in shaping Nigeria’s political future.
