Aisha Yesufu, a prominent chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has declared that the growing alliance among opposition political leaders is becoming President Bola Tinubu’s biggest headache ahead of the 2027 presidential election. In a statement shared on her official X handle on Tuesday, Yesufu said Tinubu and his administration are more frightened now than they were during the 2022 general elections. She emphasized that the unity and coordination among opposition figures, particularly within the ADC, were not anticipated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Yesufu’s remarks highlight a shifting political landscape in Nigeria, where opposition parties are increasingly aligning to challenge the APC’s dominance. She stressed that the current political alignment is a direct response to the perceived failures of the Tinubu administration, including economic hardship, inflation, and insecurity. According to her, the ruling party is resorting to intimidation and discouragement tactics to prevent the opposition from gaining momentum.
“The alignment that has happened and is still happening is one that they never envisioned happening!” Yesufu wrote, underscoring the surprise and concern within the APC leadership. She urged Nigerians to remain focused and undeterred by the administration’s attempts to undermine opposition efforts. “So, they will do everything they can to discourage you! Ignore them and do your thing,” she added, calling for resilience and unity among opposition supporters.
The ADC, which has been positioning itself as a credible alternative to the APC, is now seen as a key player in the upcoming 2027 elections. Yesufu’s comments come at a time when political analysts are closely watching how opposition parties will consolidate their forces. The ADC’s ability to attract high-profile figures and maintain cohesion could significantly influence the electoral outcome.
Her statement also reflects growing public dissatisfaction with the current government, especially among youth and urban voters who have been vocal about economic challenges. The ADC’s strategic positioning and Yesufu’s active role in mobilizing support suggest a more organized and determined opposition front.
As the 2027 elections draw nearer, the dynamics between the ruling party and opposition forces are expected to intensify. The ADC’s growing influence, coupled with the unity of opposition leaders, may reshape Nigeria’s political future. The coming years will test whether this alliance can translate into electoral success and deliver on its promise of change.
