YPP Nominates Former APC Secretary Dalatu as Adamawa Gubernatorial Candidate

The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has officially affirmed Wafarninyi Theman Dalatu as its governorship candidate for Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections. The confirmation took place on Friday at the Bridgewood Hotel in Jimeta, Yola, following a physical, person-to-person vote by accredited party members from all 21 local government areas of the state. The process was supervised by Vidiyeno Bamaiyi, YPP National Secretary, who led a team of national party officers to ensure transparency and fairness in the selection. Dalatu emerged as the sole aspirant, receiving unanimous support from delegates present.

Bamaiyi declared Dalatu the party’s official candidate, urging him to strengthen the YPP’s presence in Adamawa and to lead the party to victory in the upcoming elections. He emphasized the need for unity and strategic planning to position the YPP as a formidable political force in the state. The declaration marks a significant step in the party’s electoral strategy, as it prepares to contest the 2027 governorship election with a clear and credible candidate.

In his acceptance speech, Dalatu expressed his commitment to transforming Adamawa’s economy and reversing the state’s long-standing poverty index. He pledged to implement broad-based economic reforms that would create jobs, improve infrastructure, and ensure inclusive growth for all residents. As a trained pharmacist, Dalatu brings both professional expertise and political experience to his campaign, having served as the APC’s Adamawa State secretary from 2019 to 2023. He also participated in the APC’s 2023 governorship primary, demonstrating his active engagement in state politics.

Dalatu’s political journey also includes a four-year tenure in the Adamawa State House of Assembly, where he represented the Hong State Constituency from 2011 to 2015. His experience in legislative and party leadership roles positions him as a seasoned candidate with deep roots in the state’s political landscape. His background in public service and healthcare adds a unique dimension to his governance agenda, particularly in addressing health and economic challenges facing Adamawa.

The YPP’s decision to field Dalatu as its governorship candidate reflects the party’s focus on experienced and credible leadership. With the 2027 elections on the horizon, the party is now poised to intensify its campaign efforts and build a strong grassroots network across the state. Dalatu’s affirmation is expected to energize YPP supporters and attract new members who believe in his vision for a prosperous Adamawa. As the political landscape continues to evolve, his candidacy could influence voter dynamics and reshape the state’s electoral future.
