Soldiers under Operation Hadin Kai have killed five suspected terrorists in an ambush carried out in the Mayanti area of Borno State on April 29, 2024, as part of ongoing counter-insurgency efforts in the North-East. The operation was conducted by troops stationed at a forward operating base and executed under the broader umbrella of Operation Desert Sanity. Intelligence gathered prior to the mission enabled the military to set up a precise ambush, leading to a successful engagement in the evening hours.
Upon making contact with the insurgents, the troops responded swiftly and effectively, neutralising five of the attackers. A military source who spoke to Zagazola Makama confirmed the outcome, stating, “The troops engaged the terrorists effectively upon contact, resulting in the neutralisation of five of them.” The encounter highlights the continued vigilance and operational readiness of Nigerian military forces in the region.
Following the clash, troops recovered several items believed to belong to the fleeing terrorists. These included two bicycles, pieces of fabric, and food supplies, all of which are typically used for logistical support by insurgent groups operating in remote areas. The seizure of these materials underscores the military’s ability to disrupt enemy supply chains and gather actionable intelligence.
After securing the area, the soldiers relocated to a new position to continue their operations. This strategic movement is designed to limit the mobility of terrorist elements and prevent them from regrouping or launching further attacks. Military authorities have emphasized that troops remain highly motivated and committed to sustaining pressure on insurgents across the North-East.
Operation Hadin Kai, which has been instrumental in recent security gains, has intensified its ambushes and clearance missions. These operations are aimed at weakening terrorist networks, reclaiming territory, and restoring a sense of normalcy in communities long affected by violence. The military’s focus on intelligence-driven actions has led to increased successes in targeting key insurgent movements.
The April 29 ambush is part of a broader campaign to dismantle terrorist infrastructure in Borno and surrounding areas. With continued coordination and local support, the military aims to ensure lasting security and enable displaced persons to return to their homes. As operations persist, the Nigerian armed forces remain determined to protect civilians and uphold national stability in the region.
