Troops Ambush and Neutralize Two Terrorists in Borno State

Troops of the Joint Task Force North-East, operating under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), successfully neutralised two suspected terrorists during a night ambush in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State on May 13, 2026. The operation, part of the broader Operation Desert Sanity/Siege Operations, took place at approximately 11:05 p.m. in Bazamri village, a known transit point for members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama confirmed the development in a post on his X handle, citing reliable military sources.

The ambush was meticulously planned and executed by Nigerian military personnel who had been monitoring terrorist movements in the area. Upon intercepting the suspects at the designated location, troops engaged them in a brief but intense firefight. The operation resulted in the neutralisation of two insurgents, with no casualties reported among the military personnel. This success underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations in disrupting terrorist activities in the region.

Following the engagement, troops conducted a thorough clearance of the area to ensure no other threats remained. During the sweep, they recovered several items believed to be logistics supplies for the insurgents. These included 54 packs of 80-gram detergent, 32 packs of 500-gram salt, and one carton of spaghetti. Such supplies are often used to sustain terrorist cells operating in remote and hostile environments, making their seizure a significant blow to enemy logistics.

Military authorities emphasized that the operation was carried out without any loss of life on the Nigerian side, highlighting the professionalism and preparedness of the troops. The ambush team repositioned afterward to maintain surveillance and prevent any potential retaliation or regrouping by the terrorists. This proactive approach is part of the ongoing efforts to maintain pressure on insurgent groups in the North-East.

Security sources noted that troop morale and operational efficiency remain high, with offensive operations continuing across the theatre. The successful neutralisation of the two suspects in Bazamri demonstrates the military’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and restoring peace in Borno State. As the Joint Task Force North-East continues its operations, communities in the region are increasingly seeing the impact of sustained military presence and intelligence coordination.

This development adds to the growing momentum in the fight against insurgency in Nigeria’s North-East, where security forces have intensified operations in recent months. The recovery of logistics supplies and the elimination of key operatives signal a strategic advantage in disrupting terrorist networks. With continued vigilance and coordinated efforts, the military aims to further degrade the capabilities of ISWAP and other extremist groups operating in the region.
