The Kebbi State Police Command has neutralised a suspected kidnap kingpin, Jiji Mujugu, and arrested another gang member during a security operation in Bagudo Local Government Area, marking a significant breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping in the region. The operation, conducted on Saturday, followed credible intelligence and led to the recovery of two locally fabricated pistols and a live cartridge. The abducted victim, Alhaji Abu Geza, was also rescued unharmed from the hideout.
SP Bashir Usman, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Saturday. He explained that police operatives, working in coordination with other security agencies, arrested Bube Tukur, a resident of Kasuwar Daji in Bagudo, who hails from Yarma Village in Suru Local Government Area. Investigations revealed that Tukur was part of an eight-member criminal gang allegedly led by Mujugu, who was responsible for the abduction of Alhaji Abu Geza.
Tukur, after his arrest, cooperated with security personnel and led them to the hideout of the gang leader. Upon arrival, Mujugu opened fire on the operatives and attempted to flee. In response, security forces neutralised him during the ensuing gunfight. A second locally fabricated pistol was recovered from Mujugu’s possession, further confirming his involvement in armed criminal activities.
The police also noted that the gang had been terrorising multiple communities across Kebbi State, including Geza, Adawa, Matsinkai, Sharabi, Illela, Suru, Dakin Gari, and Bagudo. Their activities had created fear and instability in these areas, prompting intensified security operations. The successful rescue of Alhaji Abu Geza and the neutralisation of the gang leader are seen as major victories in restoring peace and security.
The Command stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the gang who are currently at large. SP Usman emphasized the importance of public cooperation, stating that the Commissioner of Police commended residents for their role in providing timely and credible information. He urged citizens to continue reporting suspicious activities to security agencies to aid in dismantling criminal networks.
This operation underscores the commitment of the Kebbi State Police Command to combatting kidnapping and other violent crimes. It also highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and inter-agency collaboration. The neutralisation of Jiji Mujugu sends a strong message to other criminal elements operating in the state, reinforcing the government’s resolve to ensure public safety.
