Police Arrest Two Suspected Kidnappers, Recover 26 Stolen Goats in Yobe State

Police in Yobe State have arrested two suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate and recovered 26 stolen goats following a coordinated operation in Gujba Local Government Area. The arrests, made on 11 July 2026, came after the abduction of Idi Musa, a resident of Kolmamaji Village, on 7 July 2026. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the victim was forcibly taken by armed men along with his Kasea motorcycle and taken to an unknown location. The Gujba Divisional Police Headquarters immediately launched a search-and-rescue mission, combining field operations with intelligence gathering to locate the victim and apprehend the perpetrators.

The breakthrough occurred when the victim escaped from the kidnappers’ hideout on 10 July 2026 and rushed to the police station to report the incident. During debriefing, he provided detailed and credible information that led investigators to the suspects. Acting swiftly on this intelligence, police operatives conducted a raid and arrested two men identified as Musa Damuna, 23, and Yusufa Muhammad Bello, 21, both residents of Mutai Ward in Gujba LGA. The operation also yielded the recovery of 26 goats, believed to have been stolen by the same criminal network.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had already sold the victim’s motorcycle before their arrest. Despite this, the police command has vowed to continue efforts to trace and recover the motorcycle, as well as identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate who are still at large. SP Abdulkarim emphasized that the suspects are currently in police custody and will face prosecution once the investigation is complete. The police have also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to aid in the fight against kidnapping and other criminal acts.

This development highlights the ongoing security challenges in northern Nigeria, particularly in areas like Yobe State, where kidnapping and livestock theft remain persistent threats. The successful rescue of the victim and recovery of stolen property demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and community cooperation. Authorities are working to strengthen security measures to prevent future incidents and ensure the safety of residents in the region. The case underscores the importance of prompt reporting and collaboration between citizens and law enforcement agencies in combating crime.
