The Kano State Police Command has arrested two men suspected of robbing tricycle riders in Kano, recovering a stolen tricycle in the process. The suspects, identified as Usman Ashiru, 26, of Rijiyar Lemo, and Abubakar Ali, 28, were apprehended after allegedly robbing a tricycle rider at gunpoint on July 21, 2026. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the incident occurred in the Dala area of Kano, where the victim was lured, drugged, and robbed of his tricycle.
The victim, 22-year-old Abdulrahman Atula from Kawo Hotoro, was taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano for medical treatment following the attack. Officers from the Dala Police Division recovered the stolen tricycle, which bears the registration number AJG 170 VC and KAROTA number NSR 0709, during an intelligence-led operation. The recovery was part of a broader investigation into a series of similar robberies targeting tricycle operators in the area.
CSP Kiyawa revealed that investigators have linked the two suspects to at least 10 other robberies committed in Dorayi and Bachirawa Quarters using the same modus operandi. These previous victims have come forward and positively identified the suspects as the armed robbers responsible for their attacks. The police believe the suspects operated as part of a larger criminal gang, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members.
The police have urged any tricycle operator or member of the public who may have been attacked in a similar manner to report the incident to the Dala Police Division.
