A 32-year-old man, Auwal Mallam Ari, has been arrested by the Yobe State Police Command over the alleged robbery of N630,000 from two individuals in Goneri, Yunusari Local Government Area. The arrest followed a complaint filed on August 16, 2026, and investigations that led to the suspect’s confession. The police confirmed the case was reported to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Damaturu, where officers began tracking down those involved in the crime.
ASP Yusuf Adamu Aliyu, the command’s Public Relations Officer, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday. He explained that the initial report came from Goni Abdullahi, a resident of Baimari, who claimed he received threatening phone calls before losing N130,000. According to the police, further investigation revealed that the same suspect had also robbed another victim, Malam Alarama, of N500,000 in the same area.
Auwal Mallam Ari reportedly confessed to his involvement during questioning. He admitted to being part of a criminal group that carried out the robberies. The suspect specifically named Audu Baimari as the alleged leader of the gang, adding that he and his accomplices acted under Baimari’s direction. However, Audu Baimari remains at large, and police are intensifying efforts to locate and apprehend him.
The police have not yet released details about the methods used in the robberies or whether any weapons were involved. But they emphasized that the arrests are part of ongoing operations to curb rising insecurity in the state. Authorities also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies promptly.
