Edo State Police Command has arrested seven suspected cult members in Otuo, recovered a six-month-old baby allegedly stolen and taken to Imo State, and apprehended suspects linked to the alleged sexual abuse and online exposure of a young girl in Ekiadolor. These developments emerged during a series of intelligence-led operations aimed at curbing crime and ensuring public safety across the state. The arrests and recoveries were announced by ASP Eno Ikoedem, Police Public Relations Officer for Edo State, who spoke on behalf of Commissioner of Police, CP Patrick Daaor.
The operations, which spanned several days, targeted criminal hideouts in forested areas within Edo North. A one-week joint clearance exercise yielded positive results, with communities remaining calm and no kidnapping incidents reported during the period. The police emphasized that sustained surveillance and community cooperation played key roles in the success of these efforts.
In a major breakthrough, operatives from the Gender and Family Unit rescued a six-month-old baby who had been allegedly abducted and moved to Imo State. The child was safely reunited with her family after the suspects were apprehended. This recovery underscores the command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals, especially children, from violent crimes.
Meanwhile, in Otuo, seven suspected cultists were arrested during an intelligence-driven operation focused on dismantling cult networks in the area. The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue. Authorities stressed that cultism remains a serious threat to social order and will be dealt with decisively.
Additionally, suspects were apprehended for allegedly stripping a young girl in Ekiadolor and circulating the footage on social media. The incident highlights growing concerns over digital exploitation and cybercrime. Police assured the public that all perpetrators will face prosecution under existing laws.
Another case involves a 37-year-old man arrested for allegedly raping a 70-year-old woman in Igueben. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have vowed to ensure justice is served. The commissioner reiterated that sexual violence, regardless of age or status, is a criminal offence and will not be tolerated.
CP Daaor urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly. He also called on parents and youth to reject cultism and other criminal affiliations. The police warned against using social media platforms to humiliate, threaten, or sexually exploit others.
Edo State Police Command remains committed to intelligence-led policing and proactive engagement with communities. As crime patterns evolve, so too must security responses — and the recent successes signal a firm stance against lawlessness in the state.
