The Nigeria Police Force has announced a major breakthrough in its fight against banditry, following the arrest of four suspected bandits and the recovery of several firearms and ammunition in Kaduna State. The operation, carried out by the Force Intelligence Department – Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS), took place on 7th March 2026 in Tayu, Sanga Local Government Area. The suspects—Abdumumini Abubakar, 40, Maikano Gambo, 47, Saleh Thompson, 47, and Oyonyi Odango, 40—were apprehended based on credible intelligence gathered by police operatives. This successful intervention underscores the ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in the region.
The recovered items include four AK-47 rifles with magazines, eighty rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition, and one locally fabricated pistol with twenty rounds of 9mm ammunition. These weapons are typically associated with violent crimes, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and attacks on communities and security personnel. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects are actively involved in banditry and related violent criminal activities across Kaduna and neighboring areas. Their arrest is seen as a critical step in reducing insecurity in the region.
According to Anthony Okon Placid, Force Public Relations Officer, the operation was executed swiftly and professionally, reflecting the preparedness and dedication of the FID-STS team. He emphasized that investigations are ongoing to trace and apprehend other members of the criminal network who may have escaped during the raid. Authorities are also working to recover additional weapons and evidence that could lead to further arrests. The police remain vigilant and committed to disrupting the operations of armed criminal groups in the area.
IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu has commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift response. He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s determination to combat banditry and protect lives and property across the nation. The IGP’s statement highlights the importance of intelligence-driven operations in curbing insecurity and restoring public confidence in security institutions. This operation adds to a growing list of successes by the police in Kaduna and other high-risk states.
The arrest of these suspects sends a strong message to other criminals that no area is beyond the reach of law enforcement. As the police continue to strengthen their intelligence and operational capabilities, communities in Kaduna and surrounding areas are encouraged to report suspicious activities. The government and security agencies remain focused on ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region. This case marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to combat banditry and restore security.
