The Benue State Police Command has arrested seven more suspects, including an 80-year-old man and four traditional rulers, in connection with the murder of Alhaji Ardo Risku Mohammed, the state Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), and his associate, Yakubu Isah. The arrests, made following weeks of intelligence-driven operations, mark a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the June 26, 2026, killings. The suspects include Sylvester Ajonye, 80; Chief Morgan Ejaga, 43; Chief Moses Anteyi, 45; Chief John Ogli, 58; Chief Yawuhu Adaji, 49; Aba Alexander Uloko, 59; and Fidelis Iduma, 45. All were apprehended during coordinated tactical operations by police operatives across the state.
The command confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Saturday by its spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet. According to the statement, the arrests were the result of sustained intelligence gathering, detailed investigations, and continuous tactical operations. The police emphasized that the suspects were linked to the ambush that occurred near Okpokwu in Otukpo Local Government Area, as the two victims were returning from a peace meeting in Ohinmini Local Government Area. The attack, which left both men dead, sparked widespread concern and calls for justice across Benue State.
Benue State Commissioner of Police, CP Cletus Nwadiogbu, commended the investigating and tactical teams for their professionalism and dedication. He noted that the operations have yielded encouraging results and underscored the command’s commitment to bringing all perpetrators to justice. CP Nwadiogbu stressed that anyone found to have participated directly or indirectly in the killings would be tracked down and prosecuted without delay. He also urged residents to remain calm and continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and useful information.
The commissioner reaffirmed the police’s resolve to ensure justice for the victims while maintaining peace and public safety across the state.
