The Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has successfully rescued 14 victims who were abducted by sea pirates along the Calabar–Oron waterways. The operation, which took place recently, was driven by credible intelligence and coordinated efforts between law enforcement agencies. All victims were recovered safely without any physical harm, marking a significant victory in the fight against maritime crime in the region.
According to a statement signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Okon Placid, the rescue was made possible through sustained intelligence-led operations and robust inter-agency collaboration. Joint operatives intensified surveillance across known flashpoints along the water corridor, targeting criminal networks engaged in piracy and kidnapping. The tactical coordination allowed security forces to act swiftly and decisively, ensuring the safe return of all abducted individuals.
The rescued victims are currently receiving medical evaluation and psychological debriefing at a secure facility. Authorities are ensuring they are in stable condition before reuniting them with their families. The Police Force emphasized that the safety and well-being of the victims remain a top priority throughout the process.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the joint security team for their professionalism and effectiveness. He described the rescue as a clear demonstration of how intelligence-driven operations and inter-agency cooperation can yield positive results in combating organized crime. His remarks underscored the commitment of the police to protect citizens, especially in vulnerable maritime zones.
The Nigeria Police Force has also assured the public that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend all those involved in the abduction. Security operatives are actively tracing the perpetrators and gathering evidence to ensure they face the full force of the law. Authorities are also reviewing security protocols along the Calabar–Oron waterways to prevent future incidents.
This successful operation highlights the growing strength of Nigeria’s security architecture in addressing maritime threats. With increasing collaboration between agencies like the Police and EFCC, the country is taking decisive steps to safeguard its waterways and protect lives. The rescue of these 14 individuals sends a strong message to criminal elements operating in the region: there is no safe haven for piracy or kidnapping in Nigeria.
