The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has called on voters to remain vigilant after casting their ballots and to follow the electoral process all the way to collation centres to ensure their votes are counted and transmitted accurately. The party made this appeal during the official flag-off of its campaigns for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections, held on Wednesday across the state. PDP leaders emphasized the importance of civic responsibility and urged supporters not to leave polling units immediately after voting, stressing that staying until results are finalized is crucial to safeguarding democratic integrity.
Ladi Adebutu, Chairman of the Campaign Committee and the party’s governorship candidate in Ogun State, addressed the gathering with optimism, assuring residents that better days are ahead. He expressed confidence that Nigerians will once again experience improved living conditions, particularly after the 2027 elections. “I know the happy days are coming again in January,” Adebutu said. “By the grace of God, the leader in Nigeria has asked me to say one prayer. The prayer is that we shall banish poverty.” He urged PDP supporters to remain committed, resist intimidation, and stand firmly by their choices at the polls.
Lateefat Sowunmi-Kolapo, Adebutu’s running mate, echoed these sentiments, calling on citizens to exercise their right to vote without fear. She stressed that elections are about the people and their power to choose leaders who represent their interests. “After voting, don’t say that you are done and leave,” she said. “Cast your vote and stay at the polling unit. Stand by your vote and follow the process to the collation centre. Do not be intimidated. The vote belongs to the people, so let’s come out and exercise our franchise. May God give us victory. Vote for the PDP from top to bottom.”
Also speaking was Iyabo Obasanjo, the PDP’s senatorial candidate for Ogun Central, who revealed her return to the party after a brief stint in the All Progressives Congress (APC). As the daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, she noted that she previously represented the senatorial district from 2007 to 2011 and was dismayed to see the progress made during her tenure eroded by subsequent representatives. “My desire to take our senatorial district back to where it was when I represented it is the reason I returned to the PDP to take up the challenge of restoring our lost glory,” she stated.
Thousands of residents and party supporters turned out in the three federal constituencies of Ogun Central Senatorial District, showing strong backing for the PDP candidates. Many pledged their unwavering support and vowed to vote for the party in January. “We will vote for the PDP and stand by our votes,” they declared. The campaign launch marked a significant step in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections, reinforcing its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the restoration of democratic values across Nigeria.
