The Ansar-u-Deen Society in Osun State has reaffirmed its non-partisan stance while hosting the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the August 15, 2023, gubernatorial election. The meeting took place in Osogbo on Sunday and focused on promoting peaceful elections and civic responsibility. Both parties emphasized the importance of electoral integrity and urged citizens to participate in the democratic process without fear or coercion.
During the gathering, Hafiz Akande, Secretary of the Ansar-u-Deen Society in Osun State, stressed that the organization remains politically neutral as a corporate body. He clarified that while the society does not endorse any political party, it will not discourage or abandon its members who seek public office. Akande stated, “Let me state clearly that as a corporate body, ADS remains non-partisan.” He further explained that the society recognizes the importance of supporting its members who aspire to leadership roles.
Akande emphasized that leadership is a sacred trust, or “Amanah,” from Allah, and can only be achieved through divine permission. He described the pursuit of public office as a noble endeavor, provided it is done with sincerity and competence. “We firmly believe that authority is a sacred trust from Allah, and no one attains it except by His divine permission,” he said, adding that such leadership should ultimately benefit society.
Bola Oyebamiji, the APC candidate, used the occasion to appeal to voters to safeguard their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). He urged citizens not to exchange their votes for money or gifts, warning against the commercialization of the electoral process. Oyebamiji described the PVC as a constitutional instrument that gives citizens the right to choose their leaders. “The PVC is an instrument that confers the right on each person to have a say in deciding who leads or presides over their affairs for a stipulated period,” he said.
He called on residents to vote wisely, choosing candidates with the capacity and potential to lead effectively. Oyebamiji’s message was clear: every vote counts and should be cast responsibly. The meeting underscored a shared commitment to peace, fairness, and democratic values in Osun State.
As the election draws near, the Ansar-u-Deen Society’s stance highlights the role of religious organizations in promoting peaceful elections without political bias. Their engagement with candidates like Oyebamiji reflects a broader effort to ensure that governance in Nigeria remains inclusive and accountable. The coming weeks will test the resolve of voters, candidates, and civil society as they work together to uphold democratic principles in Osun State.
