Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has emerged as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, following his adoption at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abeokuta. Since his selection, Yayi has been actively engaging with key party figures and aspirants to consolidate support and promote unity within the APC. On Tuesday, he held separate meetings with Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and Sarafa Isola, the immediate past High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, both of whom are prominent figures in Ogun State politics.
Yayi’s meeting with Senator Iyabo Obasanjo took place at the Olusegun Osoba Hilltop in Abeokuta, where he reaffirmed his commitment to her political vision and manifesto. He emphasized that her policies would be integrated into his campaign agenda, promising to work closely with her and her team. He also pledged that at least one, two, or three members from her group would be included in his campaign structure, underscoring his inclusive approach. “Immediately after, Iyabo Obasanjo congratulated me, and I was truly excited,” Yayi said. “I am here as a son of the family to give assurance that we will work together. I am ready to inherit your manifesto. I will work in line with your vision.”
In another significant development, Sarafa Isola, who had previously been a governorship aspirant, announced that he has merged his 24 support groups into Yayi’s 2027 project. Isola stated that his decision was motivated by a desire to end the cycle of political bitterness that has plagued Ogun State’s succession politics. He stressed that personal ambition must yield to the collective good of the state. “The love for Ogun State comes first,” Isola said. “I have been a strong and committed advocate of the Yewa agenda over the years, and this is the first time the Yewa people are coming together as one without opposition.”
Isola added that this unity presents the best opportunity for meaningful progress in the state. He expressed pride in supporting Yayi’s bid, noting that he has benefited from Ogun State and feels a duty to contribute to its development. In response, Yayi thanked Isola for his support and highlighted the value of his experience and network to the APC’s campaign. He reiterated that his consultations with other aspirants are aimed at fostering harmony and ensuring a united front for the 2027 election.
These strategic engagements signal a shift towards party cohesion and inclusive leadership in Ogun State’s political landscape. As the 2027 governorship race approaches, Yayi’s efforts to unite diverse factions within the APC may prove crucial in shaping the state’s political future.
