NDC Unveils Ogah as Abia Guber Candidate in 2027, Promises to Replicate Osun Template

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially unveiled Etugo Ogah as its governorship candidate for Abia State, with Dozie Alaribe as his running mate, in a formal presentation to party members held in Umuahia on Wednesday. The event marked a key step in the party’s preparations for the 2027 gubernatorial election, as it seeks to build momentum and unify its base ahead of the polls. Akoh Atuloma, Chairman of NDC in Abia, presided over the ceremony, emphasizing the importance of transparency and legitimacy in the party’s nomination process.

Atuloma stressed that the unveiling was designed to prevent impersonation and ensure that only authentic candidates represent the party in the upcoming election. He highlighted the significance of public trust, noting that clear identification of candidates would protect both party members and voters from misinformation or fraudulent claims. “We are doing this to safeguard the integrity of our campaign and to ensure that no one misrepresents themselves as an NDC candidate,” he stated.

Drawing inspiration from the 2023 Osun State governorship election, Atuloma urged Abia voters to emulate the resilience shown by Osun electorates who resisted vote-buying attempts during their poll on August 15. He praised their commitment to democratic principles and called on Abians to uphold the same standard in 2027. “You saw what happened in Osun — people were offered money but still voted for their preferred choice. We must do the same here in Abia,” he said, urging vigilance against electoral manipulation.

In his acceptance speech, Etugo Ogah expressed gratitude to the party leadership and pledged to foster unity within the NDC. He emphasized his commitment to reconciling all aggrieved aspirants, stating that internal harmony is essential for electoral success. Ogah also declared confidence in the party’s ability to win, citing the growing influence of the Obi-Kwankwaso political alliance as a major factor in their favor. “The Obi-Kwankwaso tsunami will sweep NDC to victory in Abia in 2027,” he affirmed, signaling strong alignment with national political trends.

With the 2027 elections approaching, the NDC’s move underscores its strategic effort to consolidate support across Abia State. The party’s focus on transparency, voter education, and coalition-building reflects a broader strategy to compete effectively in a crowded political landscape. As campaigns begin to take shape, the NDC’s candidate pair will likely intensify grassroots mobilization efforts to secure votes and build credibility among Abians. This unveiling sets the stage for a dynamic electoral contest in the state, with implications for regional politics and national party dynamics.
