Labour Party Unveils New Presidential and Governorship Candidates Ahead of 2027 Elections

Candidates seeking political office have flooded the National Headquarters of the Labour Party in Abuja as they rush to meet the deadline for acquiring nomination forms ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party’s secretariat witnessed a surge in aspirants on Tuesday, with several high-profile figures securing their forms to vie for various positions across Nigeria. The Labour Party has officially opened its nomination process, attracting candidates from different states and political backgrounds eager to contest in the upcoming elections.

Among the notable names who obtained forms on Tuesday is Peter Agada, who is vying for the party’s presidential nomination. Also present was Gazo Jonathan Gbefwi, who is seeking the governorship of Nasarawa State. Prince Chioma Chinwo, a prominent figure from Rivers State, is also in the race for the gubernatorial seat in his state. Other aspirants include Philip Agbese, contesting for the Ado/Ogbadibo/Okpokwe Federal Constituency in Benue State, and Maj. Kenneth Obiabo Ehoche, who is running for the Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency in the same state.

Ishaya Timothy Yohanna is among those vying for the Yola North/Yola South/Girei Federal Constituency seat in Adamawa State. Labour Party spokesperson Ken Eluma Asogwa confirmed the influx of candidates, noting that the party’s National Secretariat was overwhelmed with aspirants keen to participate in the 2027 elections. He highlighted that Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, former First Lady of Ondo State, has secured her nomination form to contest for the Imo East Senatorial District.

Other candidates include Hassan Mamman Barguwa, who is running for the House of Representatives seat in Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency in Adamawa State; Hon. Dennis Chibuzor Oshai, contesting for the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency in Delta State; Eric Edward, who is vying for the Hong State Constituency seat in Adamawa State’s State House of Assembly; and Mohammed Hayatu Atiku, competing for the Uba/Gaya State Constituency in the same state. The list continues to grow as more aspirants arrive daily to submit their applications.

The Labour Party’s nomination process is seen as a critical step in shaping its electoral strategy for 2027. With a diverse range of candidates from various regions and backgrounds, the party is positioning itself for a strong national campaign.
