The Labour Party (LP) has officially announced Hon. Juliana Obetta Princess as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 Benue State gubernatorial election, just 48 hours after selecting Mathias Byuan as its governorship candidate. The announcement was made at the party’s secretariat along Otukpo Road in Makurdi, marking a significant moment in the state’s political landscape. Byuan, who is now the party’s standard-bearer, emphasized that Obetta was chosen unanimously by LP members across Benue State, reflecting broad consensus and unity within the party.
Hon. Juliana Obetta Princess, a seasoned grassroots politician, previously served as the executive chairman of Okpokwu Local Government Area. Her political career has been rooted in community development, civic engagement, and political mobilisation, earning her respect across various communities in the state. She also played an active role in President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign organization, further solidifying her experience in national and state-level political processes.
During the unveiling ceremony, Byuan highlighted the importance of gender inclusivity in governance. He stated, “We have consulted widely with party stakeholders across the state and today, they have unanimously elected Mrs Julie Obetta as the first female governorship candidate who, by the grace of God, come 2027, will be the first female deputy governor of Benue State.” The declaration underscores the party’s commitment to advancing women in leadership positions and promoting equitable representation in public office.
Byuan also outlined his administration’s vision, promising to transform Benue from a civil service-dependent state into a thriving industrial hub if elected. He stressed that the party’s platform would focus on job creation, infrastructure development, and economic diversification to improve the standard of living for all Benue people.
