Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State have called on defeated aspirants from the party’s recently concluded primaries to uphold peace and unity ahead of the 2023 general elections. The appeal was made by Ahmed Umar Faruk, Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency and founder of the Tinubu Kauran Gwandu Movement for Continuity (TKG), in a statement released on Monday. Faruk emphasized that internal harmony is crucial for the APC’s electoral success, urging all members to put party interests above personal ambitions.
He specifically cautioned aspirants who did not secure the party’s nomination to refrain from making inflammatory remarks or engaging in actions that could deepen divisions within the APC. “We wish to caution those who did not secure the party’s ticket to desist from comments, actions and attitudes capable of causing division within the party and weakening our collective chances in the general elections,” Faruk stated. He stressed that unity, stability, and loyalty to the party must remain the top priority for all members across all levels of the party structure.
Faruk also warned against the use of social media influencers and online supporters to attack fellow APC candidates, describing such tactics as divisive and detrimental to the party’s image and electoral prospects. He highlighted that such behavior undermines the collective effort needed to win elections and could alienate voters who expect a united front from political parties.
The TKG leader underscored the strategic importance of Kebbi Central Senatorial District, calling it the political heartbeat of the state due to its significant voter base and influence on the state’s political direction. He expressed concern over the APC’s National Assembly ticket for the Birnin Kebbi/Kalgo/Bunza Federal Constituency, warning that losing this seat could have a ripple effect on the party’s performance in future elections. The loss, he noted, could also jeopardize the re-election campaign of Governor Nasir Idris, whose political fortunes are closely tied to the party’s performance in the state.
The statement from Faruk and the TKG serves as a reminder that electoral success in Nigeria often hinges not just on campaign strategies, but on internal cohesion and disciplined party management. As the APC prepares for the general elections, the call for unity is seen as a proactive measure to prevent internal conflicts from derailing the party’s chances. The message to aspirants and stakeholders is clear: personal ambitions must yield to the greater goal of collective victory. The coming months will test the party’s ability to maintain solidarity, especially in key states like Kebbi where political dynamics are closely watched.
