The Kano State Fire Service recorded 20 fire incidents and responded to 13 emergency rescue calls across the state in July 2026, according to an official report released on Saturday. The statement, signed by Public Relations Officer Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, detailed the service’s operations and highlighted significant losses and rescues during the month. In addition to the fire incidents, five false alarms were also reported, underscoring the need for public awareness and responsible reporting.
During the month, ten lives were tragically lost in various fire-related incidents, while six individuals were successfully rescued from dangerous situations. The fires destroyed property valued at N9.381 million, but firefighters managed to save assets worth N37.524 million through swift and coordinated responses. These figures reflect both the severity of the emergencies and the effectiveness of the fire service’s intervention efforts.
Alhaji Sani Anas, Director of the Kano State Fire Service, issued a strong appeal to residents to exercise extreme caution when handling fire. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that all sources of fire are completely extinguished after use to prevent avoidable outbreaks. Anas warned that negligence in this regard could lead to devastating consequences, including loss of life and extensive property damage.
In addition to fire safety, the director urged parents and guardians to closely supervise their children, especially around water bodies and other hazardous areas. He specifically advised against allowing children to play near puddles, ponds, rivers, and uncovered wells, as these locations pose serious drowning risks. His message was clear: proactive prevention is key to reducing accidents and saving lives.
