INEC Prints 77,015 Additional PVCs in Oyo for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has printed an additional 77,015 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for new registrants in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections. The commission confirmed that the PVCs are part of ongoing preparations to ensure a smooth and inclusive electoral process across the state. The distribution of these cards will begin on Friday, October 9, 2026, and conclude on Thursday, October 15, 2026, covering all 351 wards in Oyo State.

Professor Adeniran Tella, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Oyo State, made the announcement in a statement issued on Tuesday in Ibadan. He emphasized that the exercise is designed to deliver the newly printed PVCs to eligible voters who registered during recent voter registration drives. The distribution will take place daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., including weekends, to allow maximum access for residents across all local government areas.

Tella noted that the seven-day window was chosen to ensure efficient delivery and collection of the cards without overwhelming any single ward or polling unit. The process will be conducted under strict supervision to prevent fraud and ensure transparency. INEC officials will be stationed at designated collection points within each ward to facilitate the distribution and verify identities of applicants.

The move reflects INEC’s commitment to expanding voter participation and strengthening democratic processes in Nigeria. With over 77,000 new voters set to receive their PVCs, the commission aims to boost voter turnout and enhance credibility in the upcoming elections. These cards are essential for citizens to participate in voting, as they serve as official identification and proof of registration.

INEC has urged all eligible registrants to present themselves at their designated collection points with valid identification documents. The REC also reminded the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent activities and to report any suspicious behavior during the distribution period. Proper coordination between INEC staff and local authorities will be maintained throughout the exercise.

This initiative comes amid growing expectations for a more transparent and accessible electoral system in Nigeria. As the 2027 general elections approach, efforts like this one in Oyo State signal a broader national push to improve voter engagement and electoral integrity. The successful distribution of these PVCs will lay a solid foundation for a free, fair, and credible election in the state.
