The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Ward Executive Committee in Obiozara, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, has suspended Mr. Silas Onu for three months over allegations of anti-party activities, gross misconduct, and violations of party discipline. The suspension, formally communicated in a letter dated April 22, 2026, was signed by Mr. Nwachukwu Peter Obinna, acting Chairman of Obiozara Ward, and Akuma Martins, acting Secretary. The decision follows a series of alleged breaches of party rules and constitutional procedures, including the unauthorized conduct of party congresses and interference with national screening and electoral committees.
According to the Ward Executive, Onu’s actions were in direct violation of the ADC Constitution and the Electoral Act 2026, which grant the Ward Executive the authority to enforce party discipline. The suspension bars Onu from holding any position within the ADC at the ward, local government, state, or national level. He is also prohibited from representing the party, attending any official gatherings, or exercising voting rights and privileges as a member.
The Ward Executive accused Onu of hijacking the national screening committee and the national electoral committee, as well as conducting an illegal congress that undermined the legitimacy of party members who had purchased nomination forms for various positions. They stated that Onu’s actions were designed to disenfranchise genuine members and disrupt the party’s internal processes. The intervention of the State Chairman, Dr. Mrs. Jennifer Adibe, was credited with preventing further chaos, as she exercised her constitutional powers to oversee party activities and establish a State Screening Committee to ensure due process.
In addition to the suspension, Onu is accused of impersonation and misleading the national leadership during the recently concluded National Convention. He allegedly presented himself as the Ebonyi State Chairman of ADC, a role he does not hold, and engaged in criminal activities that misled delegates and national officials. The Ward Executive claimed these actions have caused serious divisions within the party and led to the creation of parallel, illegal leadership structures in Ebonyi State.
Onu has been given 14 days from April 22, 2026, to appear before a 7-member disciplinary committee established by the Ward Executive. Failure to appear within the stipulated time will be considered a waiver of his right to defend himself, and the case will proceed to higher disciplinary measures. Attempts to reach Onu for comment were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls.
This disciplinary action underscores the ADC’s commitment to maintaining party unity and adherence to constitutional procedures. As the party prepares for upcoming elections, internal discipline remains a critical factor in ensuring credibility and cohesion.
