A decomposing body has been discovered in an apartment in Osogbo, Osun State, prompting a full investigation by the Osun State Police Command. The deceased, identified as Kemisola, was found in her room at a residence in the Jaleyemi area on Thursday. Police confirmed the incident was reported immediately, and officers responded swiftly to secure the scene and remove the remains. The body has since been taken to a mortuary for preservation and further examination, including an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the police spokesperson, stated that no visible signs of violence were found on the body. He emphasized that the investigation is ongoing to uncover the exact circumstances surrounding Kemisola’s death. “The incident was reported today. The remains were evacuated by the police, and an autopsy will be carried out,” Ojelabi said. He added that while there were no apparent injuries, the police would not rule out any possibilities and would follow all necessary procedures to ensure a thorough inquiry.
Items found inside the room before the body was removed included a knife, a mobile phone, and an empty bottle containing an unidentified substance. These items are being collected as part of the forensic investigation. The apartment had been vacant for months, as Kemisola had previously moved out due to frequent power outages and had been staying with her maternal uncle. Neighbours were unaware of her recent return until an unpleasant odour alerted them to the presence of the body.
A man who identified himself as Kemisola’s elder brother, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed he last saw her on Monday. “When I saw her on Monday, she told me she would come back to me. But I did not see her again until her body was found today. She was a hairstylist,” he said. His account suggests that Kemisola had returned to the apartment shortly before her death, possibly without informing many of her close contacts.
Neighbour Damilola described Kemisola as a friendly and well-liked person in the community. “Kemisola was like a younger sister to me. She was a lovely person. When she came back on Monday, she greeted me and went inside,” Damilola said. He noted that the sudden discovery of the body has left the neighbourhood in shock, especially since she had been absent for a long time and her return was not widely known.
The case has drawn attention to the importance of community vigilance and timely reporting of suspicious situations. As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. The findings from the autopsy and forensic analysis are expected to provide more clarity on the circumstances of Kemisola’s death. This incident serves as a reminder of the need for regular check-ins on loved ones, especially those living alone or in isolated conditions.
