Army Arrests 10 Suspected Terrorists, Rescues Kidnap Victims in North Central Region

Nigeria Army troops have arrested 10 suspected terrorists and rescued three kidnapped victims in a series of coordinated security operations across the Federal Capital Territory and North-Central states, according to an operational report released on Wednesday in Abuja. The operations, conducted under various internal security initiatives, highlight the military’s continued efforts to combat terrorism, kidnapping, and other criminal activities in the region. The report detailed successful raids and patrols in Abaji, Benue, and Nasarawa, where intelligence-driven actions led to multiple arrests and the recovery of weapons and vehicles.

In the Federal Capital Territory, troops from the 176 Guards Battalion, working alongside the Office of the National Security Adviser’s tracking team, intercepted two suspected terrorists at a snap checkpoint in Abaji. The suspects were apprehended while traveling in a commercial vehicle from Asaba to Kaduna. They have since been taken into custody for further investigation. The operation under Operation MESA underscores the military’s proactive approach to disrupting terrorist movements within the FCT.

In Benue State, soldiers conducting fighting patrols under Operation WHIRL STROKE arrested two suspected terrorists in Gwer West Local Government Area. During the same operation, two motorcycles were recovered, indicating the suspects’ use of motorized transport for illegal activities. The troops also achieved success in Nasarawa State, where six suspected terrorists and drug peddlers were arrested in Karshi, Karu Local Government Area. These arrests followed actionable intelligence, and the military recovered a locally fabricated pistol, cartridges, and other incriminating items. All suspects are currently in custody for interrogation.

The army also reported significant progress in anti-kidnapping operations in Benue. In response to distress calls, troops swiftly intervened, forcing kidnappers to abandon their victims and flee. One victim was rescued in Mbakange, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, and handed over to the police. Two more were freed during a separate operation in Agidi, Konshisha Local Government Area. These rescues reflect the military’s commitment to protecting civilians and restoring public confidence in security operations.

The Nigeria Army emphasized that its operations remain focused on dismantling criminal networks and improving overall security across the country. The coordinated efforts in the FCT and North-Central states demonstrate the military’s ability to respond effectively to emerging threats. As security challenges persist, the army’s sustained presence and intelligence-led operations continue to play a crucial role in safeguarding lives and property. These recent successes are expected to contribute to long-term stability in the region.
