APC Unveils Damilola Sonayon James as Hamzats Running Mate for Lagos 2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially announced Princess Damilola Sonayon-James as the deputy governorship candidate to run alongside Dr. Obafemi Hamzat in the 2027 Lagos State governorship election. The announcement was made on Monday by Cornelius Ojelabi, Chairman of the Lagos State APC, following extensive consultations within the party. Sonayon-James’ nomination had already secured the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu and the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision-making body of the APC in Lagos State.

Her emergence as the running mate to Hamzat marks a significant development in the party’s preparations for the February 2027 election. The selection process was carefully conducted to ensure a candidate who aligns with the party’s vision and can contribute meaningfully to the state’s development. Ojelabi emphasized that the choice was based on competence, leadership ability, grassroots appeal, loyalty to the APC, and the capacity to advance Lagos’ growth agenda.

Sonayon-James, currently serving as the Lagos APC Deputy Woman Leader, brings a wealth of experience from the public, private, and political sectors. Her dedication to public service and strong commitment to the party were key factors in her selection. Ojelabi highlighted her leadership qualities and consistent engagement with communities, which have earned her popularity among women and young people across Lagos.

The APC chairman expressed confidence that the Hamzat-Sonayon-James ticket will offer a balanced blend of experience, innovation, and grassroots connection. He described the partnership as one capable of sustaining progress and effectively addressing the needs and aspirations of Lagos residents. The ticket is expected to build on existing development initiatives while introducing new strategies for economic growth and inclusive governance.

Ojelabi urged voters to support the APC, stressing the party’s commitment to continuity, job creation, and sustainable development. He noted that Sonayon-James’ selection reflects the party’s dedication to inclusiveness and the empowerment of women and youth in governance. The APC aims to position Lagos as a leading hub for innovation, investment, and development across Africa.

As the 2027 election approaches, the Hamzat-Sonayon-James ticket is expected to strengthen the party’s appeal across diverse voter groups. Their campaign will likely focus on delivering tangible results, improving infrastructure, and enhancing the quality of life for all Lagosians. The announcement sets the stage for a competitive and well-organized electoral campaign in Nigeria’s most populous state.
