APC Chief Ayekooto Demands Investigation into PFIPC Scandal Involving Top Government Officials

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Ayekooto Akindele, has demanded a thorough investigation into the controversial formation of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, PFIPC, following allegations of fraud and misuse of state resources. The agency, which the presidency has officially disowned, has become the center of a growing scandal after its self-proclaimed Director General, Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, accused President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, of accepting bribes. Despite the presidency’s denial, Adeyemi maintained in a Channels TV interview on Thursday night that his appointment was legitimate and that Gbajabiamila was aware of his operations.

Akindele, reacting on his official X handle on Friday, expressed strong suspicion that Adeyemi had accomplices both within and outside the government. He emphasized that the existence of such a fake agency, which received official-looking approvals and financial backing, could not have happened without collaboration from key government institutions. He called for an urgent probe into top government offices, including the Office of the Director General of the Budget, the Central Bank of Nigeria, and the Inspector General of Police.

According to Akindele, the Director General of the Budget must explain why funds were allocated to a non-existent presidential council in the 2026 National Budget. He also questioned the CBN Governor and the Accountant General of the Federation on the basis of their decision to open bank accounts for Adeyemi. He pointed out that a Director in the Head of Service of the Federation, Mimi Abu, had signed an approval letter authorizing staff recruitment for the PFIPC, a body never formally established by the government.

The news writer further highlighted the role of the Nigeria Police Force, asking how Adeyemi received police protection and orderly services during his alleged scam activities. He also raised concerns about civil servants in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Head of Service who allegedly handed over office keys in the Federal Secretariat to Adeyemi. These actions, he argued, suggest a systemic failure and possible complicity at multiple levels of government.

Akindele’s statements come amid rising public concern over governance and accountability in Nigeria’s federal institutions. His call for transparency underscores growing pressure on authorities to address corruption and ensure that no individual or group can exploit state machinery for personal gain. The investigation into the PFIPC controversy could have far-reaching implications for Nigeria’s public trust in its leadership and financial systems. As the story unfolds, Nigerians are watching closely to see how the government will respond to these serious allegations.
