Akwa Ibom Police Apprehend Suspected Serial Kidnapper, Recover Human Remains

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man identified as Ubong Michael, popularly known as “Ubong Boy,” for his alleged involvement in multiple kidnapping cases across the state. The arrest, made following a tip-off from intelligence sources, came after the suspect had been on the command’s wanted list for an extended period. Ubong was apprehended in his community after secretly returning from Port Harcourt, where he had been hiding. The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the state’s ongoing efforts to combat violent crime and restore public safety.

During the operation, police recovered disturbing human remains, including a human skull and bones, believed to belong to one of the victims of the kidnapping syndicate. The discovery was made during a search of the suspect’s residence, which also yielded two live cartridges, a dagger, and other incriminating items. According to DSP Timfon John, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, preliminary investigations confirm that Ubong played a key role in at least two major abductions — one involving Gabriel in 2023 and another involving John in 2025. These cases had drawn widespread public concern due to the brutal nature of the crimes and the prolonged absence of the victims.

Ubong, during interrogation, confessed to his involvement in the kidnappings and is now cooperating with law enforcement. His cooperation is expected to aid in the recovery of additional weapons and the apprehension of other members of the criminal network who are still at large. The police have emphasized that the suspect’s arrest is part of a broader strategy to dismantle criminal syndicates operating in the region. The Command has also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to aid in the fight against crime.

Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, reiterated the police’s commitment to bringing all criminal elements to justice. He warned that anyone involved in unlawful activities, especially kidnapping, will face the full force of the law. The arrest of Ubong Boy is seen as a major step forward in restoring peace and security in Akwa Ibom State. As investigations continue, authorities are hopeful that more suspects will be apprehended and justice delivered to the victims’ families. This development underscores the importance of intelligence-driven policing in tackling organized crime in Nigeria.
