Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a prominent chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s administration for what he describes as a dangerous and inglorious path that undermines Nigeria’s democratic foundations. Speaking in a statement released to the media, Eze expressed deep regret over the current state of governance, highlighting the sacrifices made by Nigerians to bring the All Progressives Congress (APC) to power. He criticized the government’s alleged coordinated interference in opposition party affairs, warning that such actions threaten to establish a one-party system in the country.
Eze praised the leadership of the ADC and all Nigerians who have spoken out against what he calls the Tinubu administration’s attempts to eliminate political opposition. He specifically commended the Lagos Chapter of the ADC for their ongoing protests, which he described as a necessary response to an “evil system.” He urged the party leadership to sustain the protests on a daily basis until the message for free and credible elections resonates with the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to Eze, the protest must not be limited to one or two days but should continue until President Tinubu recognizes the need to rein in his actions. He pointed out that Tinubu himself had previously taught Nigerians the power of sustained protest, using the strategy to help remove the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from power. “We will use it to rescue Nigeria from his devious hands,” Eze declared, emphasizing the importance of unity among Nigerians in resisting what he sees as an authoritarian drift.
Eze called on all citizens to stand with the ADC in their mission to end the suffering caused by the current administration. He accused Tinubu of being more focused on replicating the long-term rule of Cameroon’s Paul Biya, despite delivering zero impact in leadership. “Shamefully, Tinubu is more concerned about how he will turn himself into Paul Biya, perpetuating himself in power regardless of his zero impact in leadership who has reduced the country in all ratings,” he said.
He reiterated his sadness that the same government Nigerians once supported has now led the nation into what he calls an “inglorious path.” Eze urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in their determination to end the hardships imposed by the Tinubu administration. He stressed that the fight for democracy, transparency, and accountability must continue, especially as the 2027 general elections approach.
As the political landscape remains tense, Eze’s words reflect growing concerns among opposition leaders and civil society about the future of Nigeria’s democracy. The sustained protests and vocal opposition may shape the country’s electoral landscape in the coming years.
