ADC Declares Nakudu Winner of Jigawa Governorship Primary

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially declared Senator Sabo Muhammad Nakudu as the winner of the party’s governorship primary election in Jigawa State, following a delayed collation process that spanned over 72 hours. The announcement was made by DIG Zaki Ahmed, Chairman of the ADC Electoral Committee for Jigawa State, after all outstanding results were finally received and verified. The primary, which saw intense competition between Senator Nakudu and Hon. Bashir Adamu Jumbo, concluded with Nakudu securing 35,939 votes, significantly outpacing Jumbo’s 19,537 votes.

DIG Ahmed, a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, addressed journalists after the final collation, confirming that results from all 27 Local Government Areas in the state had been accounted for. Initially, only 19 out of the 27 LGAs had submitted their results, with delays reported from Auyo, Roni, and Kazaure. These delays contributed to the prolonged announcement period, raising concerns among party members and political observers about the transparency and efficiency of the electoral process.

Despite the initial setbacks, the electoral committee maintained that the process remained credible and in line with party guidelines. Ahmed emphasized that the powers vested in him as Chairman allowed him to declare the winner based on the verified results. He stated, “Based on the powers bestowed on me as Chairman of the Electoral Committee, I hereby declare Senator Sabo Muhammad Nakudu as the winner of the Jigawa State governorship primary election.” The declaration marked the end of a tense and protracted primary season within the ADC.

Senator Sabo Muhammad Nakudu, a seasoned politician and former Minister of Agriculture, now emerges as the party’s standard-bearer for the upcoming gubernatorial election in Jigawa State. His victory positions him as a key contender in the 2027 general elections, assuming the party maintains its current momentum. The ADC’s decision to declare Nakudu as the winner follows a series of internal consultations and electoral procedures designed to ensure fairness and inclusivity.

The outcome of the primary has drawn attention from political analysts who note the significance of Nakudu’s win in consolidating support within the party. His experience in national governance and deep roots in Jigawa politics are expected to strengthen the ADC’s campaign strategy. As the party prepares for the next phase, focus will shift to campaign planning, coalition-building, and voter mobilization.

With the primary concluded, the ADC now looks ahead to the general election, where Senator Nakudu will face off against candidates from other political parties. His victory sets the stage for a competitive race in Jigawa State, where political dynamics continue to evolve. The results underscore the importance of internal party processes in shaping Nigeria’s electoral landscape.
