Abia PDP Chairman Secures House of Reps Ticket Amid Candidate Emergence

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has officially announced the winners of its House of Representatives primary election held on Sunday, May 17, 2026, marking a significant step in the party’s preparations for the upcoming general elections. The results, released in Umuahia, confirmed Amah Abraham Nnanna as the candidate for the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency. The party’s Electoral Committee Chairman, Ikenna Onuoha, declared the process transparent and in full compliance with both the Electoral Act and the PDP Constitution 2017, as amended.

Onuoha emphasized that the primary election was conducted using two methods: consensus and direct primary, as mandated by the party. He explained that where candidates reached consensus, the process was swift, while in cases where agreement could not be reached, a direct primary was held to determine the winner. This dual approach ensured fairness and inclusivity across the four federal constituencies where results were announced.

In the Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency, Akpulonu Solomon secured the party’s nomination. For the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Humphrey Chukwudi Benson emerged victorious. In the Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency, Ajuziogu Roland was declared the winner. These results reflect the party’s commitment to internal democracy and structured candidate selection.

The PDP Abia State chapter is yet to release results for the remaining four federal constituencies, pending final verification and ratification by the party’s leadership. The delay does not undermine the credibility of the process, as the party has maintained that all procedures were followed to the letter. Party members and stakeholders are expected to await the remaining outcomes with keen interest.

The primary election is a crucial phase in Nigeria’s political calendar, setting the stage for the 2027 general elections. With these results, the PDP in Abia State is now positioning its candidates for the next electoral battle. The party’s leadership has urged unity and focus as they prepare to campaign across the state. The outcome of these primaries will influence voter dynamics and political strategies in the region. As the nation gears up for the next election cycle, Abia State’s PDP candidates are now officially in the race to represent their constituencies at the national level.
