12-Year-Old Girl Rescued from Rape in Tinted Vehicle, Found 3 Months Pregnant

A 12-year-old girl rescued from being raped by a man identified as Zayyanu Halilu at the Airport Bridge Taxi Park in Abuja has been confirmed to be three months pregnant, according to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command. The incident occurred on October 2, when police officers conducting routine surveillance noticed a suspicious navy blue Volkswagen vehicle with registration number KMC567LQ parked with its windows fully tinted and rolled up. Upon closer inspection, the officers observed the vehicle shaking, which raised immediate suspicion of criminal activity.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed the details in a statement released on Saturday. She revealed that when officers approached the car and opened it, they discovered Halilu in the act of raping the minor. The suspect was immediately arrested, and the victim was rescued and taken to safety. According to the police, preliminary investigations show that Halilu had repeatedly lured the child to the same location over several occasions, using threats to silence her if she ever spoke about the abuse.

Medical examination conducted on the girl confirmed she is approximately three months pregnant as a result of the sexual exploitation. The victim is currently receiving medical care and psychological assessment under police supervision. SP Adeh emphasized that the suspect remains in custody and will be formally charged in court once all investigative procedures are completed. The case has sparked widespread outrage across Nigeria, highlighting ongoing concerns about child protection and gender-based violence in urban areas.

The incident took place near a busy taxi park, a location often frequented by commuters and travelers, making the crime even more alarming. Authorities have since increased patrols around the area to prevent similar occurrences. The FCT Police Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, especially involving minors or isolated vehicles in public spaces. This case underscores the urgent need for stronger community involvement and improved child safety measures in Nigeria’s capital.

As investigations continue, legal proceedings against Halilu are expected to follow swiftly. The outcome of this case may set a precedent for how such heinous crimes against children are prosecuted in Nigeria. The nation watches closely as justice is sought for the young victim, whose life has been profoundly affected by this violent act.
