Kalu Kalu, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for Abia State, has issued a direct challenge to Governor Alex Otti to prove that his administration has executed any project in Ohafia Local Government Area. Speaking during an interview on Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Friday, Kalu, who is originally from Ohafia, stated that he would withdraw from the 2027 gubernatorial race if evidence of even one completed state government project in the local government could be presented.
Kalu emphasized that Ohafia Local Government has received over N16 billion in allocations from the state government over the past three and a half years. Despite this substantial financial inflow, he claims there are no visible projects initiated or completed by the state government in the area. He urged Arise TV to visit Ohafia and demand that Governor Otti and his team identify any such project.
“If your station will go to Ohafia Local Government and show one single project Alex Otti has done for the people of Ohafia Local Government, I will drop my gubernatorial ambition,” Kalu declared during the broadcast. His statement underscores growing discontent among residents of Ohafia, who feel marginalized despite receiving significant funds from the state treasury.
The ADC candidate stressed that his challenge is not merely political but rooted in accountability and transparency. He believes that citizens have the right to know how public funds are being utilized, especially when large sums are allocated to specific areas. “I am from Ohafia LG of Abia State, and I’m placing it on record here that my local government has received over N16 billion for the past three and a half years,” he reiterated, calling for concrete proof of development.
Kalu’s remarks have sparked debate across Abia State, with many residents echoing his concerns about underdevelopment in Ohafia. Critics argue that while other parts of the state have seen infrastructure improvements, Ohafia remains largely neglected. The challenge also highlights broader issues of resource distribution and governance in Nigeria’s federal system.
As the 2027 governorship election approaches, Kalu’s bold statement positions him as a vocal advocate for grassroots accountability. His campaign may gain traction among voters frustrated with perceived neglect. The outcome of this challenge—whether or not a project can be identified—could influence public perception of Governor Otti’s administration and shape electoral dynamics in Abia State.
