The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Deputy Governorship Candidate in Ogun State, Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, has issued a strong message to opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, assuring them that they will not be abandoned even after defeat. Speaking at the Ijemo Zone meeting of the party in Ward 5, Abeokuta South, Kolapo emphasized unity among Ogun’s people, urging political opponents not to fear losing power. She stressed that politics in the state had evolved beyond personal interests and selfish motives that have long caused hardship for residents.
Kolapo told opposition members who are currently anxious about their political futures that they should not panic, saying they would still have a place in society even after electoral defeat. “We want to assure our brothers and sisters in the opposition, who know the truth but are running helter-skelter to protect their ‘soup pots’, that they will still be able to eat after we must have thrashed them at the polls,” she said. She added that the PDP would never allow politics to break the bond between true sons and daughters of Ogun State, warning that those currently being sold as allies for personal gain would eventually abandon their causes.
As the Iya Sunnah of Egbaland, Kolapo highlighted her deep-rooted connection with the people of the region, which predates her political career. She reiterated that the welfare of Egba communities remains a top priority for her and the PDP. She called on residents to rally behind PDP candidates contesting for seats in the National Assembly and the Ogun State House of Assembly in 2027.
Also present at the event was Biodun Ogunremi, Deputy Chairman of the PDP in Ogun State, who urged party members to step up door-to-door mobilization efforts. He noted that the masses are tired of suffering and are increasingly aligning with the PDP. “In the Central, we have the Deputy Governor and Senator Iyabo Obasanjo. That is what is giving them headache,” he said, referring to the strength of PDP leadership in the region.
Mustapha Owolabi, Director-General of the PDP Campaign Council, expressed full confidence in the party’s victory, describing the 2027 election as a “done deal” for the PDP. He claimed that voters across Ogun Central and other parts of the state are already ready to support the party, citing widespread grassroots enthusiasm and trust in its leadership. The gathering, attended by party members and stakeholders from across the constituency, underscored the PDP’s growing momentum in the build-up to the next election cycle.
With key figures projecting optimism and unity, the PDP appears determined to consolidate its position in Ogun State, setting the stage for a competitive and potentially transformative electoral contest in 2027.
