Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, gubernatorial candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), has declared himself a victim of the Ibadan Circular Road project, revealing that his landed property in Ona Ara Local Government Area was affected during the construction phase. Speaking to journalists in Ibadan on Thursday, Adekanmbi confirmed that his property was consumed by the ongoing infrastructure development, which began under the administration of former Governor Abiola Ajimobi. The project has led to the demolition of several homes and structures across the state capital, prompting widespread protests from displaced residents.
Adekanmbi described the situation as deeply painful, acknowledging the personal loss he has suffered. He emphasized, however, that such sacrifices are often necessary for public development projects that benefit the majority. “I am a victim of the Ibadan Circular Road. I have a landed property in Ona Ara; it was consumed by the project,” he stated. He added that he had spoken with other affected individuals and shared their sense of distress, though he maintained a commitment to understanding the broader public interest.
Despite being impacted by the project, Adekanmbi made it clear that he would not align himself with Governor Seyi Makinde in a way that compromises his integrity. He stressed that he is not like Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, who has been critical of President Bola Tinubu, nor is he willing to be labeled as a political stooge. “I am not Fubara. I came from a good home. I cannot assassinate Seyi Makinde’s character. I will not be an ingrate. I am not like Fubara,” he said. He further explained that while he would not blindly follow orders, he also would not betray those who have supported him.
The Ibadan Circular Road project, intended to ease traffic congestion and boost urban mobility, has faced criticism over compensation issues and lack of transparency in land acquisition. Many residents have raised concerns about inadequate relocation support and delayed payments. Adekanmbi’s disclosure adds a new dimension to the debate, as a political figure openly sharing his experience as an affected party.
