The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly criticized the City Boys Movement, a campaign platform associated with President Bola Tinubu, over allegations of excessive luxury and wasteful spending during a time of national hardship. In a statement issued by the party’s national spokesman, Osa Director, the NDC accused members of the movement of flying in private jets and living in open opulence while ordinary Nigerians struggle to meet basic needs under what they describe as a rudderless All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.
Director emphasized that the lavish lifestyle displayed by officials linked to the City Boys Movement reflects a deep disconnect from the suffering of the average Nigerian. He described their conduct as “tone-deaf,” arguing that it reveals how insensitive and indifferent the Tinubu-led government has become to the struggles of its citizens. “The nation is at the precipice,” Director warned. “We cannot remain perched on the edge. We must collectively reject wastage and the extravagant lifestyle of a privileged few.” He called on Nigerians to exercise their democratic right to vote out the current administration, urging mass participation in upcoming elections to bring about change. The NDC reiterated its commitment to fiscal responsibility, citing its presidential candidate’s zero tolerance for government waste as a key promise to restore accountability.
The party believes that under its leadership, the judicious use of taxpayers’ money will be guaranteed, ensuring that public resources are directed toward development and welfare rather than personal enrichment.
