The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Nasarawa State has arrested two suspects over allegations of vehicle theft and attempted disposal of a stolen car, marking a significant step in the state’s ongoing efforts to combat rising crime rates. The suspects, identified as 68-year-old Adamu Mohammed and 32-year-old Emmanuel Omaku, were apprehended on August 21, 2026, at a mechanic workshop located along Secretariat Road in Shabu, within the Lafia North Development Area. NSCDC operatives acted swiftly based on credible intelligence, intercepting the duo while they were allegedly trying to sell the stolen vehicle.
During the arrest, security agents recovered several items linked to the crime, including a 2010 Toyota Camry, commonly known as “Camry Muscle,” which was found in the workshop. Also seized were two vehicle number plates — ABJ-289-CQ from Abuja and LAF-761-AG from Nasarawa — a Moniepoint ATM card, a cutlass, and ₦169,500 in cash. These items are being examined to establish connections between the suspects and the alleged criminal network involved in vehicle theft and illegal sales.
State Commandant Brah Samson Umoru confirmed that the NSCDC has launched a thorough investigation to determine the rightful ownership of the vehicle and trace its origin. He emphasized that the command is committed to identifying and dismantling criminal gangs operating in the state, particularly those engaged in vehicle theft, robbery, and other forms of organized crime. “We are determined to identify, arrest and dismantle criminal networks involved in vehicle theft, robbery and other forms of criminality across Nasarawa State,” Umoru stated.
Umoru also urged residents to actively cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information. He stressed that public involvement is crucial for effective crime prevention and swift justice. The NSCDC added that it is currently working to track down other suspected members of the gang who remain at large. All suspects, once investigations are complete, will face prosecution in court.
