2027 Polls: Ideyi emerges ADC Senatorial Candidate for Ebonyi South Zone

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially declared Dr. Ideyi Prince Gamax as its candidate for the Ebonyi South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections, following a substitution primary held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the party’s state secretariat in Ebonyi State. Gamax emerged unopposed, polling 450 votes from party members across the senatorial district, a result announced by Dr. Victor Uduma, the Returning Officer and Deputy Chairman of ADC in Ebonyi State. The exercise was conducted peacefully and monitored by security agencies, media representatives, and officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), according to Dr. Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, the ADC state chairman.

Dr. Uduma confirmed that the primary was attended by enthusiastic members of the party who expressed strong support for Gamax, stating that they had given him their mandate to represent them in the upcoming national election. He emphasized that Gamax was the only aspirant in the substitution primary, which was necessitated by a directive from the party’s national leadership following adjustments to the earlier primary process. The initial primary had taken place on April 22, 2026, where Gamax also emerged victorious, but the substitution was required to align with updated party procedures.

In his remarks after the announcement, Gamax expressed confidence in the ADC’s chances of winning the 2027 senatorial election in Ebonyi South. He noted that widespread consultations across the district revealed a strong public desire for change and better representation. “Our people are eager for change, and they are looking at ADC as a vehicle to bring about this change and give us the kind of representation that will benefit our people,” he said. He stressed that the party is committed to delivering the dividends of democracy and ensuring effective governance for the region.

Dr. Adibe-Nwafor affirmed that the substitution primary was legitimate and would be formally submitted to the national headquarters of the ADC. She dismissed claims of any parallel primaries, asserting her authority over the electoral process within the state chapter. “If there should be any primaries, I should be the one in charge of the primaries. I am not aware of any other primaries going on anywhere,” she stated firmly. Additionally, she revealed that the ADC will participate in the Ebonyi State local government elections scheduled for August 22, 2026, and expressed optimism about achieving a strong showing in those polls.

With Gamax now officially positioned as the ADC’s standard-bearer for Ebonyi South, the party is gearing up for an active campaign season leading into the 2027 elections, aiming to consolidate support and challenge incumbent candidates. This development marks a significant step in the ADC’s efforts to strengthen its political presence in the southeast region of Nigeria.
